Old School

This is the Americas Horse TV show coverage of the 1986 AQHA World Show.  It was neat to see all the things that have changed but that good horsemanship never changes! I really enjoyed watching two legends John Hoyt and Billy Allen win world championships. Watching the rest of the show I found myself recognizing other horses and competitors and started thinking about all the things I learned from watching them, not to mention all the great runs!

As I watched this I really noticed how much more competitive it is today, and that some of the folks, like J.D. Yates, are still at the top of their game. Much like John Hoyt and Billy Allen were in 1986. I firmly believe that John and Billy and their peers are the reason we compete at such a high level today. As well, some of the competitors found their ways to other disciplines and found success there as well. The attributes that allowed them to be successful in one arena helped in the next!

You never stop learning and that if you want to compete at a high level you have to be around others who are competing at a high level. What wins today might not be what wins tomorrow and you have to change and adapt to the new styles or techniques. I think that desire to seek new challenges and try new things  is one of the most important things we do every day no matter what it is we do!
